St. Mark's News & Events for July 1, 2007

Greetings to all of you!

As you may have read last week, my first hole in the semi-finals turned out disastrous but I had two more holes left to salvage a decent showing. Well, as the golf gods would have it, another team decided to pump three balls out of bounds on the next hole and all of a sudden our team was back in it in second place with one whole to go! As we stood on the tee for the final hole, five shots down, the first place team decided to pump three of their own balls out of bounds! Suddenly, after the hole was finished, we were tied with them to decide who would advance to the final shootout! The officials decided to have a “chip off” to declare the winner, and again, I was the first one to hit. The chip was about 30 yards with all sorts of groves, hills, and even mountains between me and the hole. (Ok, the mountains might be pushing it). Anyway, realizing my partner couldn’t chip his way out of a paper bag, a mountain of pressure began to settle on my poor shoulders. Thus, after surveying the contour of the land and the roll of the green, I stepped up and knocked it two feet away and no one else even got close! WE WON the semi-final round and we were now heading for the final shootout against two other teams!! The crowed went wild and I was carried on the other golfer’s shoulders to the 9th hole where the ultimate winners would be crowned. Next week I will tell you what happened so stay tuned!

Well, that is all for now.
Continue to enjoy the gift that God has given us in each other.

Peace,
Fr. David
