Pope's Remarks

Greetings to you! I guess by now many of you have heard about the Muslim uprising against the remarks made by Pope Benedict quoting a person from the middle ages during an academic lecture. Please understand that these comments are simply MY feelings and thoughts and NOT the views of all Christian Catholics. With that said, let me just comment that I feel the uprising is simply blown out of proportion and that the radical movement of Islam is simply fueling the fires. Before one feels the desire to react irrationally to any situation, the entire issue has to be seen in CONTEXT. Unfortunately, comments taken out of context are always wonderful fodder for newspapers and magazines to sell their wares. However, I also feel in this day and age, we have to be careful about what we may say publicly so the wrong impression won't be given. Regarding Pope Benedict and his comment, one must first remember that he is a teacher with high intellectual ability and was merely using examples to expound on his point. On the negative side however, I think Benedict forgot he was a POPE first and teacher second. Anything one speaks from this vantage point will ALWAYS be given more credence than we feel was intended. I pray for our Pope especially during this time of misunderstanding.

Peace,
Fr. David
